Taste For Justice Dinner
Amnesty International Dinner
On August 29th my daughter (Tami) held an Amnesty Taste For Justice Party in our home. Tami has been successfully helping for approximately 4 years now and enjoys aiding those who are in dire need of our help.
I am happy to say that the dinner itself went fantastic, Tami was able to raise a little more then $300. I’ve always said even one dollar can make a difference, so I’d like to thank you to all those who participated and got involved.
The dinner was filled with laughter and excitement as the draws for jewelry, popcorn, pedicures, makeup and so much more were auction off. The barbacue was perfect with my husband Paul cooking the chicken cabobs, hamburgers and hotdogs. The mixture of several types of salad, and side dishes of chips, just excentuated the delicious desert bought by one of the guest. A huge and I must say tasty chocolate cake, which was topped off with napolean ice cream… A big thank you to Mike for his gracious desert! Ice teas and cool beverages ended the day with everyone happy and full.
Below is a little about Amnesty:
Amnesty International was founded in 1961 by British lawyer Peter Benenson. He became angry after reading a report about two Portuguese students who had been imprisoned for raising their glasses in a toast to freedom.
In response, Benenson published an article – called “The Forgotten Prisoners” – on the front page of the London Observer newspaper on May 28, 1961.
The article cast the light of public attention on the situation of a number of people – including a U.S. civil rights leader, a dissident Hungarian cardinal and an Angolan poet. Each of these people were in prison simply for peacefully expressing their beliefs. “The Forgotten Prisoners”
Benenson argued that the treatment of these “prisoners of conscience” was wrong, and he called on concerned members of the public to demand their release. The public response was quick, widespread and enthusiastic. Thousands of people, from London to Uruguay, from nurses to children, offered their help. Amnesty International was born.

About Taste for Justice
Taste for Justice was launched by Amnesty International Canada in June 2005 as a fun and exciting way for supporters to get together with friends and family to raise funds and awareness for human rights. In 2006, the event expanded to include donations from participating restaurants in communities across Canada.
Since 2005, hundreds of individuals, groups and small businesses from coast to coast have raised more than $250,000 for Amnesty’s human rights research and campaigns.
As Taste for Justice continues to grow, we hope you’ll join us this year!
